Ray passed away on March 19, 2012 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving and caring wife Margaret Harris and his nine children Trudy (Norbert) Kondla, Linda (Al) Curwin, Ray (Sue) Harris, Fred (Karin) Harris, Bonnie Harris, Debbie (Gary) Esligar, Wendy Harris, Candy (Keith) Turly, Sandy (Denise) Harris, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Ray was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 12, 1925. He grew up in Calgary and met his future wife there. Ray and his three brothers joined the military during World War II to fight for their country. Ray joined the navy and was stationed on HMCS Magog and survived his ship being torpedoed in the St. Lawrence River. He returned home to marry Margaret. Ray and his family later moved to the Standard area and bought a farm. He welded all over Alberta before becoming an oilfield operator in the Standard area, all while continuing to farm and raise his nine children. Ray Harris was a quiet and hard working person who was always willing to help a neighbor and especially his family. He always looked forward to seeing the baby animals each spring, but he liked nothing more than sitting on his deck and watching his grandchildren play.  Memorial Services was held on Monday, March 26, 2012 at Wheatland Funeral Chapel, Strathmore at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made directly to the Standard Cenotaph Foundation (Box 249, Standard, AB, T0J 3G0).  To send condolences, please visit www.wheatlandfuneralhome.ca.  WHEATLAND FUNERAL HOME LTD.
